This print is a reproduction of N.C. Wyeth's 1917 oil painting, "It hung upon a thorn, and there he blew three deadly notes". Initially, this was a color illustration in The Boy's King Arthur by Sidney Lanier and published by Charles Scribner's Sons. N.C.'s son, Andrew Wyeth, remembers that the tree depicted in the foreground stood on the Wyeth property in Chadds Ford.
